370 Ivy St, Old Crestmoor Denver: Photographing a 1939 Musick Tudor

370 Ivy St sits on the curve of Ivy Street in Old Crestmoor. It was built in 1939 and designed by the Musick architectural firm, the Denver practice of G. Meredith Musick, whose work in the city ranges from the Tudor-style Wellshire Country Club to some of Denver’s early modern civic buildings. The home has since sold.

Three owners in almost ninety years

Houses this old rarely stay in so few hands. The owners who bought it in 2019 were only its second, and in 2021 they took on a full renovation and an addition. They kept what the original builders made by hand: the brick, the custom ironwork and the leaded glass windows. In 2026 the house came to market for only the second time in its history and passed to its third owners.

Brick, arches and a working kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the house. Original brick walls and arches frame a farmhouse island and a dedicated coffee station, and the arches line up from one room to the next. I composed from the thresholds so each arch frames the room beyond it, the way it does when you walk through.

The library

Off the main living space is a library with deep blue walls, custom lighted shelving and leaded glass set into the bay windows. I kept the exposure gentle so the walls hold their depth and the old glass reads clearly.

Upstairs and below

Below the main floor, a stair leads to an arched door and the wine cellar. Upstairs, the primary suite is vaulted and crossed by a timber beam, and its bath sets a soaking tub beneath leaded glass. Even the powder room, finished in glazed green tile, carries the same handcrafted feel as the original house.

Photographing a house with history

A house like this asks the photographer to slow down. The story lives in the brick, the iron and the glass, so I built each frame around them and let the renovation sit quietly alongside. The goal was simple: show buyers what has lasted here for almost ninety years, and the care that went into carrying it forward.
