1133 Race St, Cheesman Park: Photographing a Denver Penthouse at Twilight
High above Cheesman Park at 1133 Race Street, this penthouse is all about the view. Downtown Denver rises to one side, the Front Range stretches along the other, and the park spreads out green below. The story here is the city itself, and the way it changes color at the end of the day.
The quiet walk
Before I set up a single light I walked the home end to end and watched the windows. A spiral stair curls up beside the glass like a piece of sculpture. The living room is a wall of windows, and the bedrooms wake up to the skyline. I made notes on which way each room faces, because in a home like this, the hour you choose for each room is the photograph.

Dancing with the sun
The plan followed the sun across the sky. Rooms facing the mountains were photographed as the light lowered behind the peaks. Rooms facing downtown waited until the towers started to light up. Inside, I balanced the warm lamps against the view so you can see both the room and the city through the glass, the way your eye does when you stand there.

Tilt-shift lenses keep the tall window walls straight and honest. Every frame was blended and edited by hand so the interiors stay soft and natural while the sky keeps all of its color.

The hour the lights come on
Twilight is when a penthouse earns its name. I took the drone up over Cheesman Park as the city lights came on, then stayed for the last band of color over the Front Range. The roof terrace, with its umbrellas folded for the evening, sits right in the middle of that view.

One author, from the first walk to the final frame
A home like this asks for patience, planning and a consistent eye. Every photograph here was made and edited by the same person, so the listing reads as one story about living above the city. That is the idea behind our luxury real estate photography in Denver.
